Global Vision

In April 2015, Tohoku University, (Japan) founded the International Graduate School of Accounting Policy (IGSAP) and shortly after began admitting students from many countries to metriculate from October,2015.

IGSAP students will earn post-graduate Master’s degrees awarded by Tohoku University upon the completion of two years of coursework. IGSAP is a unique MA degree program run jointly by universities and partner business professional institutions in Japan and overseas. The principal mission of IGSAP is to nurture professionals of accounting policy, who will go on to lead in the resolution of a variety of serious problems in global, national and local affairs. We believe that they will be able to solve these problems by applying their transnational human networks and an advanced knowledge of accounting, finance and public policy.

Admission (In the case of 2017) 

Students from African countries of ABE Initiative (JICA) and students from collaborated universities and organizations (the students of collaborated universities and organizations will be noticed about the procedures of application through each university and organization) shall take a special entrance examination. The application documents (Curriculum Vitae and Study Plan, etc.) shall be sent to International Accounting Policy Program Division in Accounting School Katahira Administration Office from Monday, April 10 to April 24, 2017. As the documents of African students will be forwarded to us from JICA, they need not send us the documents above. The entrance examination for the applicants of ABE Initiative and the recommended applicants by the collaborated universities and organizations shall be done by the documents above. The details of the examination will be disclosed by our website till March 31, every year.

Students of usual entrance examinations shall send the application form (the form will be uploaded to our website till March 31, every year) and the necessary documents (Curriculum Vitae and Study Plan, etc.) of applicants need to be sent to International Accounting Policy Program Division in Accounting School Katahira Administration Office from Monday, April 10 to April 24, 2017. The entrance examination for the applicants of usual entrance examination shall be done by the documents above. The details of the examination will be disclosed by our website till March 31, every year.

The result of entrance examination will be sent to each applicant by e-mail and in writing on the beginning of June, 2017.

※Research paper is elective. Students can complete IGSAP by earning 44 credits without submitting research paper. In the case of dual degrees, they are required to submit master thesis to both Tohoku University and partner university.

Curricula of IGSAP 

1. What is Accounting Policy?

The graduates of IGSAP will become professionals who contribute to society and organizations through development of accounting systems, financing small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), and performing public policies. They will work in accounting firms, business corporations, public organizations and governments.

2. Lecture / Seminar courses

IGSAP offers a lot of Lecture / Seminar courses in the main three Subjects. IGSAP has the main three Subjects: Accounting Systems Design, Finance of SMEs, and Modern Public Policy, and four communication literacy courses: Japanese Business Communication, English Business Communication, Cross-section of Multi-culture, English Composition for Research Paper and Master Thesis.

These courses are to be held from October to January and from April to July.

4. Internship and Field Study

Students can engage in internship or field study in business organizations or government offices offered by Public Organization Institute of Accounting Policy (collaborative organization between academia and profession) or foreign collaborative universities.

Internship and field study is to be held every year in February and March or August and September. Internship and field study classes are not given in those 4 months.

Students can make a research paper in the second year of IGSAP. If it is evaluated AA, the students can proceed to the Ph.D. program of the Graduate School of Economics and Management. In case students enrolled based on Double Degree MOU between IGSAP and a partner university, they can submit a master thesis to both university and can get dual degrees.

5. Master Thesis or Research Paper

Students can make a Research Paper in the second year of IGSAP. If it is evaluated AA, the students can proceed to the Ph.D. program of the Graduate School of Economics and Management. If they wish, in case every Double Degree student is requested to submit a Research paper (or an MA thesis) to bothe his / her home instiution and Tohoku University in order to obtain Double Degrees awarded by the both institution.
